As telecommunication services expand and improve across Kiribati, Eutan Tarawa Council is trying to get on the front foot with its online engagement.
The development of the first local government council website sets new standards for community access to local information and provides a much-needed window to the world to hopefully attract more visitor interest and investment to North Tarawa.
The Council’s website has been made possible through an Australian Volunteer Program Impact Grant which has engaged a specialist marketing and design company Wild Honey Creative to design and build its website.
The website provides an additional important communication tool with the capability to be expanded and updated by the Council. The website is adapted for both computer screens and smartphones.
A revised Facebook page is also provided for additional Council narratives and other stories of community interest for North Tarawa. At this stage, the website is in English only. Translation into I-Kiribati is possible as a further stage in the future subject to additional funding support.
North Tarawa residents will have direct access to information about Council services, events and other important information about North Tarawa and the matters that affect life in this beautiful part of the world. The website also showcases many of the fantastic natural beauty attributes of North Tarawa including its landscapes, culture and friendly people.
The Council has been working closely with Government of Kiribati ministries to ensure that its new website service aligns with government policy and effective integration with the Government’s own telecommunication strategy for Kiribati.
Eutan Tarawa Council’s website and its implementation are expected to act as a model for other government, including local government council websites as they further develop across Kiribati.
Council’s website is expected to evolve over time as needs and community and visitor interaction preferences become clearer.
You are encouraged to use the website regularly and make any suggestions to Council for improvement.
