Council has been successful in helping the North Tarawa Women’s Association to obtain a grant for approximately $11,000 towards improved clean water security from the New Zealand High Commission Fund. The fund supports small projects that contribute to broader community well-being.
The Association is an umbrella organisation that supports at least 10 other women’s groups across North Tarawa and has a meeting place provided by the Council in Abaokoro. The grant will enable the installation of rainwater tanks, a pump and piping to connect to the building and provide a clean source of water captured from the roof.
This much needed infrastructure will help improve clean water security for the region’s women in need and their young children. As part of the project, the Council will provide the necessary construction support to install and connect the system.
Both the Women’s Association and the Council are very grateful for the New Zealand High Commission’s support and recognition of the importantance of this project.
